I Tried Japan’s Viral “Coconut Sable Yogurt”

People in Japan say this viral Coconut Sable yogurt tastes like cheesecake.
It only uses two ingredients, so I tried it myself to see if the hype is real.

Recently, something called Coconut Sable Yogurt has been trending on Japanese social media.

The idea is simple:
if you stick Coconut Sable cookies into yogurt, it supposedly ends up tasting like cheesecake.

So I decided to try it for myself.

Ingredients (Only Two)

You only need two things:
• Coconut Sable cookies
• Yogurt

That’s it.

For the yogurt, it’s better to choose a thick, low-moisture type, such as protein yogurt.
Apparently, if you use regular yogurt, it turns out too watery.
If you use regular yogurt, drain it first.

A Quick Side Test

Before making the actual recipe, I was already hungry,
so I tried dipping Coconut Sable cookies directly into yogurt and eating them like that.

It was… okay.

How to Make It

The process is extremely simple.
Just stick the Coconut Sable cookies into the yogurt,
then leave it in the fridge overnight.

That’s all.

The Next Morning

This is what it looked like the next day.

Coconut Sable yogurt served on a plate the next morning, with softened cookies and thick yogurt texture

Well…
It doesn’t exactly look beautiful. 😂

How Did It Taste?

After one bite, I could see why people say it tastes like cheesecake.
After all, both cheese and yogurt are made from fermented milk, so they share the same base.
By adding cookies, it probably ends up resembling the ingredients of a cheesecake.

It is tasty—but the texture wasn’t perfectly even.
Because the yogurt was so thick, the cookies didn’t fully sink in, leaving some uneven spots.
Those parts, unsurprisingly, just tasted like plain yogurt.

Sweetness & Variations

Coconut Sable plus yogurt is actually not very sweet.
If you prefer more sweetness, it might be better to:
• mix honey into the yogurt beforehand, or
• eat it with jam

I didn’t try this myself, but apparently it’s also good if you freeze it and eat it like ice cream.

Final Thoughts

It tastes good, but honestly, a regular cheesecake still tastes better.
That said, this recipe makes quite a large amount at once,
so in terms of cost, it might be more economical than buying cheesecake.

You probably don’t have to use Coconut Sable specifically—
any thin cookie should work as a substitute.

If you’re curious, it’s worth trying at least once.
